In a unique blend of public service and personal passion, Chief Marshal Jason T. Tarkong continues his volunteer work as one of the wrestling coaches for Team Marianas at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau.

Held from June 29 to July 9, 2025, the Pacific Mini Games bring together nearly 3,000 athletes and officials from about 20 Pacific nations and territories. Among the coaches guiding these athletes is Chief Marshal Tarkong who has long been involved in Va’a races and wrestling development in the Northern Marianas.

“Wrestling teaches discipline, respect, and resilience—values that align closely with the principles of justice,” said Tarkong, who has coached for over two decades in various sports. “It’s an honor to support our athletes on this regional stage.”

Team Marianas celebrated with five medals during the three-day wrestling competition. Vincent Albert Li Palacios earned a silver and bronze in the 60 kg category, Seth Joshua Sablan took bronze in 71kg, Miles Borja grabbed a silver medal in the 87 kg match, and Seth Sablan won a gold medal in the 65 kg category.

“These victories are true reflections of the teamwork, sacrifice, and dedication shown by our wrestlers. But it's also a powerful reminder of the vital role our families play – your endless encouragement and logistical support are the backbone of our team,” said Tarkong. And to our wider community of supporters, your cheers from the sidelines and belief in our athletes made them feel invincible,”
