The bar examination administered in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands mirrors the Uniform Bar Examination (“UBE”) that is created and sanctioned by the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
At this time, the Commonwealth does not practice reciprocity with any other jurisdiction that administers the UBE. Thus, other UBE jurisdictions are not required to accept any UBE scored that is earned on the Commonwealth bar examination.
Therefore, any score earned on the Commonwealth bar examination is not “portable” as that word is used by the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Until such time that the Commonwealth creates reciprocity with other UBE jurisdictions, portions of the Rules of Admission that purport to create a portable UBE score have been suspended.
For more information, please review the Supreme Court Order, In re the Northern Mariana Islands Supreme Court rules: Rules of Admission, No. 2013-ADM-0036-RUL (NMI Sup. Ct. Dec. 19, 2013) (Administrative Order) which can be found on this website or contact the Supreme Court Clerk of Court.
