Marianas High School Holds Summer Mock Trial at Guma' Hustisia

Saipan, CNMI – On August 4, 2026, Marianas High School (MHS) held its summer Mock Trial program at the Guma’ Hustisia to offer students a valuable platform to practice their legal skills in a realistic courtroom scenario. Organized by the MHS Mock Trial Team, the program gave students the rare chance to step away from the traditional classroom and bring lessons to life.

Teacher-coaches Jacoby Winkfield and Robyn Spaeth guided the students through every stage of trial preparation, helping them develop case theories and refine their advocacy skills. The program brought together 15 students who stepped into the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and court personnel. Expanding the scope of the simulation to reflect a complete courtroom dynamic, the trial included labeled exhibits and featured an expert witness who testified and answered complex questions.

MHS faculty, chaperones, and supporters filled Courtroom 205A’s gallery to observe the proceedings as the students put their preparation into practice, navigating legal arguments and courtroom procedures.

The Judiciary supports the use of courtrooms by schools as part of civics education and as a hands-on way for students to learn about the justice system.
