About the event
Observed annually on November 11 in the United States, Veteran’s Day is a federal and state holiday to honor and thank all military personnel who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The date signifies the armistice between the Allies and Germany ending hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all U.S. veterans, not just those who served in World War I. Celebrations and observances across the country often include parades, ceremonies, and the laying of wreaths at war memorials, as well as numerous acts of service and recognition to acknowledge the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.[PCQ1]
